“Grandma, where have you seen hope bloom in your life?”

Katy Meagher: a mother of 6, grandmother of 16, and great-grandmother of 15. She sits at the table with me, wearing a “choose kind” t-shirt. With a twinkle in her eye, she tells me her answer to hope. “Seeing all of my children safe, happy, and healthy.” I wait for more words as I jot down her answer with expectation, and then she says, “and that’s all there is to it.”
We both get distracted by her youngest son (my dad) whistling a new song in the kitchen. Her face lights up; “he should be a famous whistler! Do you hear how good he is?”
Maybe hope blooming can be as simple as seeing the ones you love taken care of and living out God’s beautiful plan for them – whether it’s owning a company, adopting children, or simply joyfully whistling in the kitchen.
Our conversation turns back to hope, falling in love, and marriage, and she ever so sweetly says, “there’s a song; love makes the world go round. And I think that’s true.”
Maybe the answer can be this simple.
And maybe, just maybe, hope blooms wherever you water it.
